KGOC has an active role in the exploration, development and production of Oil and Gas from the Divided Zone between the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Although KGOC was only formed in 2002, the Oil and Gas operations in this area have been finding and extracting hydrocarbon reserves for more almost 50 years.

The current joint operations under KGOC's control are primarily offshore, including some onshore processing, storage and administrative facilities. Many projects are underway to search for new reserves in the area as well as improve the utilization of the existing reserves. KGOC hopes to lead the Khafji Joint Operations to significantly increase the scope of their offshore endeavors by earnestly searching for new sources of Oil and Gas and using advanced petroleum engineering techniques to recover the underground fluids in a safe and optimal way.

By January, 2006, KGOC will also take on the management of Kuwait's share in the onshore area of the Divided Zone in the Wafra area. Saudi Arabian Texaco (or SAT) will continue to represent the interests of Saudi Arabia in these new joint operations. These operations, like their offshore counterparts, represent a cooperative effort on the part of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to showcase international responsibility by sharing the Oil and Gas adjacent to the boundary between these two countries.
